Converting a Rural Pharmacy Point into a Full Pharmacy: How to Avoid Mistakes

Reviews of our Clients
Today, owners of pharmacy outlets in rural areas are increasingly considering whether this format complies with current licensing requirements and whether operating as a full-fledged pharmacy would be more appropriate. This has become especially relevant following regulatory updates that significantly simplified requirements specifically for rural pharmacies. In practice, the total premises area in rural locations is not regulated, and the main requirement—a sales area of at least 6 m²—is met by the vast majority of outlets operating as pharmacy points.
As a result, owners are actively considering a change in status, as it removes restrictions and increases customer trust. At first glance, the procedure appears straightforward: submit an application for amendments and rename the “outlet” to a “pharmacy.” However, this is where an unpleasant surprise awaits from the regulator: a “simple formality” turns into a complex legal procedure, where a mistake can lead to lost time or even business suspension.
In this case study, we analyze a real story of our Client: how we transformed a rural pharmacy outlet into a full-fledged pharmacy, successfully navigating the key bureaucratic trap of the State Medicines Service.
