Reviews of our Clients

The war has, unfortunately, become a harsh reality for Ukrainians, forcing many to seek safety and new opportunities abroad. In this context, obtaining citizenship in another country has taken on particular importance. One viable option is acquiring citizenship by descent, provided there are legal grounds for it. This pathway allows individuals to leverage their family ties with citizens of another country to gain a new legal status.

Our team, specializing in immigration law, has successfully guided many Ukrainians through this process. One such case, which we would like to share, involved a client who recently approached us for help in obtaining Moldovan citizenship for her son. His father had been a Moldovan citizen for many years.

Our legal experts took on the case, providing full support to the client and her son throughout every stage of the citizenship application process.

Document Review for Moldovan Citizenship Application

The process began with a consultation, during which our legal team carefully examined the client’s documents and determined the legal basis for citizenship. It was established that the child’s father is a Moldovan citizen. Under Article 12, Clause 2(a) of the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova No. 1024 of February 6, 2000, individuals who have at least one parent who was born in Moldova or is a Moldovan citizen are eligible to apply for citizenship.

Based on this provision, our lawyers recommended that the client proceed with her son’s citizenship application through the citizenship by descent process.

Document Preparation

During the document review, our legal team identified two key missing documents required for the citizenship application:

  • The father’s birth certificate
  • The child’s birth certificate, which confirms the family relationship with the Moldovan citizen father

To address this, we collaborated with our partners in Moldova to obtain a duplicate of the father’s birth certificate. Thanks to our well-established network, we got the necessary document quickly, reducing the client’s waiting time to a minimum.

We obtained the child’s Ukrainian birth certificate by submitting the necessary application to a local Civil Registry Office. We also assisted the client in obtaining a certificate of no criminal record, which is a mandatory requirement for the citizenship application process.

In addition, the document package included the parents' marriage certificate and divorce certificate. Once all the necessary documents were gathered, we arranged for their translation and notarization in Moldova to ensure their legal validity in the country.

Our immigration lawyer also helped the client draft an autobiography, another essential document required for the citizenship application.

Submitting the Moldovan Citizenship Application

The application was submitted directly to the Public Services Agency (ASP), the official authority in Moldova responsible for processing citizenship requests. Our legal team provided full support throughout the process, including:

1. Preparation and verification of the complete document package, which included:

  • Citizenship application
  • Client’s son’s birth certificate
  • Document confirming the father’s Moldovan citizenship (passport)
  • Certificate of no criminal record
  • Autobiography
  • Receipt for the state fee payment and standard-format photographs

2. Organization of document submission to the competent authority. Our partners in Moldova took care of submitting the documents in person, ensuring that potential delays or misunderstandings were avoided.

3. Ongoing monitoring of the application progress. We continuously tracked the status of the application and kept the client updated on any developments or changes throughout the process.

Thanks to the efficient organization of the process and the professional approach of our lawyers, as well as the support of our trusted partners in Moldova who managed the entire citizenship process, the client was able to submit all the necessary documents for Moldovan citizenship as quickly as possible. This significantly accelerated the process and helped achieve a positive outcome.

As a result, the process of obtaining Moldovan citizenship for the client’s son was successfully completed. The citizenship decision was made within 1.5 years, which is a relatively quick timeframe for such procedures.
