How We Helped a Foreigner Obtain a D-14 Visa to Enter Ukraine
Our client, a resident of Ternopil, had recently married a UK citizen. Her husband wanted to relocate to Ukraine to begin a new life with her. Since he was born in Pakistan (a high-risk migration country), the couple anticipated potential challenges with submitting documents and passing the necessary checks. They reached out to us to ensure a smooth process. The husband needed to schedule an appointment at the Ukrainian consulate abroad, gather numerous documents, secure notarized translations, and obtain an invitation from his wife.
In cases like these, each step requires accuracy and careful preparation. Effective legal support is key to avoiding problems during the visa application process, which is exactly what we provided. We began by gathering all the necessary documents for the D visa application. First, we secured an available slot and scheduled the client’s appointment at the consulate. Filling out the visa application on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also requires experience. We worked with the client to select the best country for submitting the documents, based on consulate availability and their preferences and ultimately chose Bulgaria.
A crucial next step was preparing the invitation letter from the wife. Since the client was in a different city, we provided her with a draft and instructions for notarization. We paid special attention to the notarized translation of her husband’s passport, ensuring that the spelling of his name matched the marriage certificate exactly. Additionally, we verified that his medical insurance policy provided the required minimum coverage of €30,000 and would be valid for the entire period of his stay in Ukraine. We also informed the clients about the consular fee and explained the standard and expedited processing times for the visa.
To stay in Ukraine on a D visa, the applicant must demonstrate a sufficient balance in their bank account, calculated according to specific rules. This amount can either be in the foreigner’s account or the account of the person inviting them. We calculated that, given our client’s planned length of stay, he would need to show approximately 190,000 UAH in his account. This serves as proof to the Ukrainian consulate that the applicant has the financial means to support themselves during their stay.
