The procedure for obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit in Ukraine by employment in a Ukrainian company

So, having received an invitation to work in a Ukrainian company, you will need to go through two procedures.

The first one is obtaining a Work Permit. Usually, the employer handles obtaining the Work Permit. The employer submits the application for a Work Permit, and it is the employer who prepares most of the documents.

We have already described the procedure of obtaining a Work Permit here. It is not so important for you if a Ukrainian company will take care of all these issues.

On the other hand, obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit - in most cases, this is the task of the foreigner. Only few employers take full responsibility for the relocation of an employee, or know exactly how to do it correctly.

Obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit on the basis of employment involves the following algorithm of actions:

  • Make sure that you can obtain a Temporary Residence Permit - to do this, you need to analyze the situation, as well as check the availability and validity of all required documents;

  • Prepare a package of documents for obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit. It will include the obtained Work Permit, and previously issued TIN in Ukraine to a foreigner, and notarized translations of his/her documents;

  • Get a health insurance policy in Ukraine. Our lawyers usually obtain a health insurance policy for 1 or 3 years, depending on the validity period of the Temporary Residence Permit. This insurance policy can then be used for its intended purpose - in the case of insurance events;

  • Obtain visa D to enter Ukraine. This step is only for citizen of the countries that do not have a visa-free regime with Ukraine;

  • Submit the documents for obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit to the Migration Service of Ukraine. Documents must be submitted personally, but a lawyer can also accompany the applicant. Documents are reviewed within 15 business days, after that the decision to grant or refuse a Temporary Residence Permit is made;

  • Complete the procedure of obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit. After getting the Permit, you will need to register your place of residence in Ukraine. This must be done within 30 days from the date of receipt of the Temporary Residence Permit.
